Brighton approves ambulance contract, bonds and budget moves in routine meeting

The Brighton Town Board approved multiple financial and operational measures at its Nov. 25 meeting, including an agreement with Brighton Volunteer Ambulance for emergency‑medical services in 2026, authorization for change orders on the town‑hall renovation, a budget transfer for the Farmers Market project, and a bond authorization for exterior site work at town hall.

The board authorized a contract with Brighton Volunteer Ambulance for up to $425,000 for calendar year 2026 (a $25,000 increase from the prior year). Supervisor Bill Maly noted the town’s special ambulance district and thanked both volunteer and career staff: "We're grateful to BVA," he said.

The board also authorized change orders with Milestone Construction Partners for the town‑hall renovation not to exceed $40,352 to address mural‑wall reinforcement and additional flooring work, approved a one‑time transfer of $100,000 from the general fund to the Farmers Market capital project to close remaining funding gaps, and approved certification of bonding for tax collection per New York Town Law §25.

For larger capital financing, the board adopted a resolution authorizing the issuance of bonds not to exceed $4.9 million for exterior site work related to the town‑hall renovation (phase 2). Town counsel prepared the resolution and the motion passed by roll call.

All items were moved, seconded and approved by roll call during the meeting. The board noted the winter farmers market opened recently and thanked public‑works, police and highway crews for operational support. The next board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 10, when the public hearing on the Mortimer Avenue battery project will be held.
