The Brighton Town Board voted Wednesday to set a public hearing for Dec. 10 on an incentive‑zoning application from GCI Eastwater LLC for a proposed battery energy storage system on Mortimer Avenue.
Supervisor Bill Maly said the planning board has already reviewed the site plan and the town board’s action tonight was to refer the application for public comment under the town’s incentive‑zoning procedures. “This will be a very significant system, at a size that we really haven't seen much of in New York state,” Maly said, describing the project as strategically sited near major transmission lines and potentially useful to the region’s renewable‑energy integration.
Under the town’s process, incentive‑zoning review by the town board follows a planning‑board site‑plan evaluation; the public hearing will give residents an opportunity to review project specifics and submit comments before any substantive decision. The board emphasized that no substantive approvals were taken at the meeting and that additional review and notifications would follow.
The public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the same meeting room where the board meets. The town said it will follow its standard notification procedures to alert nearby property owners and the broader public.
