On budget items, county staff requested a $6,500 transfer from the elections operating account to the elections payroll account to cover election worker pay and training-related costs until reimbursements are received; the court approved the transfer by voice vote. Commissioners also approved line-item changes and budget amendments presented at the meeting.
The court approved a $10,000 continuation bond for Nancy Criswell, identified in the record as the county librarian, and moved to issue a US Bank credit card for a newly assigned juvenile probation officer after the prior card was canceled when an officer left the department. The courthouse memorial, which citizens’ committee members said is worn around the base, will be refurbished using a Legacy quote of $1,200, to be paid from maintenance and equipment funds.
The airport hangar rental-rate proposal was not decided: the airport board plans to meet June 2 to discuss rates, and the commissioners tabled the county action until the board’s recommendation is available. Chair also reported no bids or donations and no struck-off tax properties at this meeting.
As part of a budget workshop, staff presented insurance-renewal scenarios showing roughly a 4% increase for medical premiums and about a 1.5% increase for dental. Staff outlined multiple options for how the county could allocate the increase — from the county absorbing the full increase to sharing part of the cost with employees — and asked commissioners to review scenarios ahead of a June deadline. "To just get a 4% increase is really very good," Chair said during the discussion. Commissioners directed staff to refine scenarios for the next meeting and noted the county must return final decisions to TAC by June 26.
