Resident proposes little libraries at playgrounds; council hears road repaving and event announcements

Joanne Rietheimer (speaker 6), a Townbank resident, asked the council whether a recent proposal to install small "little libraries" at four Lower Township playgrounds would be scheduled for council consideration. She said the recreation department had forwarded the proposal to the council about two weeks earlier and asked when a decision would be made.
Mr. Laffey (speaker 4) thanked her and said staff had not yet elevated the request for council action; he expressed concern about who would stock and monitor the little libraries and the potential for unsuitable materials to be placed inside the publicly accessible small boxes. In council comments, a council member (speaker 5) announced that repaving of Town Bank Road from Neville/Kenville Road to Shore Road began that day and was expected to be completed the next day, and several members encouraged residents to attend community events: a Haunted Trails family event Oct. 25 (6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.) behind the recreation center and the Lower Township Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 8 at 11 a.m., starting at the Dallas Fire Department.
No formal council action was taken on the little-libraries proposal at the meeting; staff said they would follow up with the resident and the recreation department for more detail.
