Greer planning staff presented a first reading of Ordinance 15-2026 to rezone two parcels owned by Tassali Property LLC on East Gap Road from Design Review District to Office Professional. The parcels total just under 24 acres and are adjacent to residential uses, a middle school and a high school.
Miss Coddy described the request, showed aerial maps and noted staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval. She said the applicant envisions event space and a museum and that the property owner has a residence on the county side of the property. Council members asked whether Greenville County School District had been notified; staff said planning staff had discussed the matter with district planners and that the district indicated no formal objection at that time but would review the specific use. Several council members expressed sensitivity to perceptions about proximity to schools and how a weapon-themed museum might be received by neighbors; others argued museum uses can be educational.
Council voted to receive the first reading and take the item through the regular public-review process. No formal rezoning adoption occurred at this meeting; staff asked the applicant to provide fuller civil plans as the review proceeds.
