David Stone, president of nonprofit KM Forward, delivered the organization’s quarterly update at the March 10 council meeting, describing a Main Street–style strategy to revitalize downtown Kings Mountain through business support, volunteerism and promotional content.
Stone said the Main Street methodology — used in similar towns for decades — emphasizes merchant engagement, education, networking events (Business After Hours; Coffee, Conversations and Biscuits), and signature promotions such as a 'Discover Kings Mountain' media plan that will include blogs, tours, videos and social media. He said a roofline lighting project connected to those promotional efforts is projected to be completed by mid-summer and asked council to contact Lorreta Cozart for financial details.
The presentation framed KM Forward’s role as supporting local businesses and community-led events to boost downtown vitality rather than proposing city-funded capital spending at this meeting.
