“[The playground] will be wheelchair accessible with rubber surfacing throughout the playground,” Hoffman said, and the town’s plan includes additional picnic tables, benches and six trash receptacles. The board also noted a lifetime guarantee on equipment as described by the presenter.
Councilwoman Sabo urged caution, saying the town should first seek grants or alternate funding before committing municipal funds. She moved to table the resolution to pursue outside funding; the motion failed, and the board voted to proceed. The final recorded vote on Resolution 2024-06-64 was Supervisor Bott: Aye; Councilwoman Hoffman: Aye; Councilman Sabo: Nay; Councilwoman Merola: Aye; Councilman Gordon: Aye.
The board approved the contract despite Sabo’s objection about funding timing. The presenter and board said installation would begin after the Fall Festival and that surfacing would follow. Town Clerk Janice Kerwin asked whether added lighting would be included; the committee agreed to keep existing lighting and maintain a dusk closing time for the playground.
The board’s action authorizes town staff to execute the contract and proceed with site preparation and installation according to the vendor’s timeline and the town’s schedule. The town did not specify the final purchase price in the meeting minutes; the $101,000 figure was stated by the presenter. The resolution passed 4–1.
