Codes office announces comprehensive-plan open house; city to meet Waste Connections about commercial overcharges

The Berea City Council’s department reports included two public-facing items: a public open house on the city’s comprehensive plan and a scheduled meeting with Waste Connections about commercial billing complaints.

Amanda Haney, codes and planning administrator, invited council, planning commissioners and residents to a second comprehensive-plan public open house on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Berea Gallery and Event Center, 633 Chestnut Street. Haney said the meeting will include consultants and an agenda and will cover 20-year planning topics such as housing, transportation, land use and public facilities. "I expect this time that we would want you to show up at 05:30," Haney said.

City Administrator Sean Sandlin told the council the city has received numerous complaints about commercial overcharges and overflow fees from Waste Connections and has scheduled a meeting with the company the following day to address why the charges have increased suddenly. Sandlin said staff will seek reasons for the overcharges and report back to the council.

Next steps: Residents and stakeholders are invited to the comprehensive-plan open house; city staff will meet Waste Connections and provide updates to council and the public as available.
