Berea council approves $800,000 municipal road-aid expenditure for FY26

The Berea City Council voted Feb. 17 to increase FY26 municipal road-aid expenditures by $100,000, raising the line-item from $700,000 to $800,000.
City Administrator Sean Sandlin briefed the council, saying the municipal road-aid revenue stream had increased and that staff recommended moving $100,000 into the expenditure line. "We would be requesting somebody make a motion that we would allow to spend 800,000 instead of 700,000 in the municipal road aid this year," Sandlin said.
Councilmember Jerry Little supported the increase, citing the city’s roughly 70 miles of roads and the rising cost of maintenance. Councilmember John Payne noted that the public works committee had discussed the need at length and that the additional funds were needed for repairs.
The motion passed by voice vote; staff said the city's amended-budget ordinance will be updated to reflect the higher municipal road-aid expenditures at second reading.
Next steps: the increase will be incorporated into Ordinance 03-2026 at second reading and into the city's FY25–26 amended budget documents.
