City staff outlines Climatec partnership and SB 1383 compliance steps for 2024

During the Dec. 5, 2023 meeting, Executive Assistant to the City Manager and HR Manager Amy Walcker told the Council the City is partnering with Climatec to improve energy efficiency across Clayton facilities. She reported completed lighting upgrades and said scheduled work includes heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) and electric vehicle (EV) charging station equipment, with the stated goal of making Clayton City Hall a net-zero energy facility.
Walcker also informed the Council that Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), the state law on organics diversion and composting, will go into effect in January 2024 and encouraged residents to consult the City’s website for more information on compliance requirements and next steps.
Why it matters: energy-efficiency upgrades can reduce operating costs over time and SB 1383 imposes new organics management requirements on local governments and residents beginning January 2024.
