Board of Equalization approves People City Mission parcel exemption, affirms staff denials

The Lancaster County Board of Equalization met immediately after the commissioners and approved minutes from the May 19 meeting, additions and deductions to the tax-assessment rules, and action items stemming from a May 19 public hearing.
A staff representative told the board that, after additional conversations with People City Mission, the organization had provided updated information on its plans and permits that led staff to change a previous recommendation from denial to approval for Parcel 1023326002. “They were able to turn in where they are on their plans…we feel that that creates now an exclusive use that, we would we are prepared to change our recommendation on, Parcel 1023326002,” the staff member said. The board approved the People City Mission parcel as tax-exempt and then approved the remaining denials as proposed by staff.
The board also approved recommendations for partial exemptions on the record and closed the public-comment portion of the session after no members of the public came forward to speak. The Board of Equalization adjourned after voting on the action items.
