The CVB representative said transient-tax receipts are down about $8,500 year-to-date versus the prior fiscal-year period and staff recommended lowering the hotel transient-tax revenue estimate by roughly $20,000 (from $320,000 to $300,000) while boosting the short-term-rental estimate from $35,000 to $41,000. Staff noted upcoming ad placements (Southern Living, Garden & Gun, regional magazines), paid social campaigns, a streaming campaign in a 25-mile radius, and $16,000 in sponsorship checks issued recently to local event organizers.
The commission also approved a request for the mayor to sign a letter seeking Opportunity Zone designation for Census Tract 21021930300; staff said the tract—s rural designation would yield a 1.3 multiplier for eligible investments. Several routine or expected items passed by voice vote during the meeting.
