GIDDINGS — The City Council on Jan. 12 accepted the resignation of Associate Municipal Court Judge Patti Adcock, who had served since January 2014, and appointed JP2 Michael York as an associate municipal court judge.
Interim City Manager Heather Garner explained the city’s code of ordinances did not previously address associate municipal judges; the council adopted Ordinance No. 915 to make the appointment authority explicit. Council then voted to accept Judge Adcock’s resignation (motion by Mark Muniz, seconded by Kevin Rinn) and to appoint Michael York (motion by Kevin Rinn, seconded by Mark Muniz). Municipal Court Clerk Rachel Grube administered the oath of office and the anti-bribery oath to Michael York at the meeting.
Council members present voted in favor of the resignation acceptance and the appointment; minutes record unanimous support among those present. Staff said York’s experience would allow him to assume duties immediately without additional training.
Next steps: the associate judge will begin performing duties as assigned by the municipal court; staff will update municipal court rosters and records.
