Giddings sets May 2 election, approves joint-election agreements with Lee County and GISD

The Giddings City Council adopted ordinances Jan. 27 calling a May 2, 2026 general election to elect a mayor and two council members and a special election to present proposed charter amendments. Council also authorized the mayor to execute joint election agreements with Lee County (Resolution No. 612-2026) and Giddings ISD (Resolution No. 613-2026) to share election services.
Interim City Manager Heather Garner told the council the estimated cost of the election is $15,300; she said the cost would be split if Giddings ISD holds an election on the same date. Mayor Pro-Tem Alan Casey moved to adopt the ordinances and resolutions; motions passed unanimously (Ayes: Casey, Pruitt, Janda, Rinn).
Minutes show a minor numbering inconsistency in the motion text (the agenda listed Ordinance No. 916 for the general-election call while the motion referenced No. 915). Staff will finalize ordinance numbering and coordinate ballot language and joint-election logistics with Lee County and GISD.
The joint agreements task the county and the school district with providing consolidated election services; the city will pay its share based on the county's estimate and any participation by GISD.
