Simonton Lake board discusses drainage, pump repairs, dry-hydrants and weed spraying

The Simonton Lake Conservancy District board covered a range of local infrastructure items at its July 10 meeting, including pump repairs, neighborhood drainage, dry-hydrant work and a scheduled aquatic weed treatment.
Homeowner Paul Wilson raised an insurance question for board members and delivered paperwork to Board President Bob Evans so the district can pursue reinstatement of coverage. Linda Wilson will follow up with Salem Insurance.
Linda reported that Crane Pumps removed five pumps that lacked impellers and took two additional pumps for disposal; Crane Pumps indicated replacement impellers may have been ordered. Mark Lucas said he will continue discussions with Steve Johnson of Everclear about pursuing a LARE grant for related work.
Ryan Matherly said he had spoken with Steve Schweisberger and that the County Highway Department is handling drainage concerns; Fawn Drive drains improved after recent rains but the corner of Douglas and North Shore remains a problem. Randy Hoff said he had received contacts at Niblock about directional-boring work for dry hydrants and expects a quote, though he has not yet heard back; he also reported no update from Middlebury Electric.
The board briefly discussed the Flock camera project but did not record a decision. Aquatic Weed Control plans to spray the narrows on July 11; Linda said the work will be covered by the Great Lakes Initiative and Bob Evans will verify funding details with Jim Donoho. Board members also raised the possibility of not spraying in August.
Ryan asked that the district publicize the process for replacing the District 2 representative; petitions must be filed by Dec. 1, 2024.
