Glennville council confirms appointments, approves traffic signal, remodeling and interim fire chief

At its Feb. 3 meeting, the Glennville City Council confirmed multiple appointments and approved several routine items that the minutes record as unanimous or carried.
Appointments: Mayor Weaver appointed Quentin McArthur to the Board of Ethics for a four-year term ending Jan. 31, 2030. The council reappointed Dr. Paul Thompson and Linda Gail Thomas to four-year terms on the Board of Ethics. The council appointed Terri McCloud to the Planning Commission and Board of Appeals for a one-year term; the minutes note Councilmember Tammy Waters refrained from voting, and the motion carried. The council also resolved that a councilmember will serve on the Industrial Development Authority for as long as they remain a councilmember and designated Councilmember Tammy Waters to that seat. The council appointed Ricky Smiley, T. J. Quarles and Jesse Johnson to fill unexpired Industrial Development Authority terms.
Public works and public safety items: The council approved Georgia Department of Transportation's request to install a traffic signal at East Barnard Street and South Herrington Street. The council authorized painting and exterior remodeling plans for 202 and 206 West Barnard Street (the Vault), which the Downtown Development Authority had previously approved. The council authorized placing a 1998 Ford F800 dump truck on GovDeals for sale.
Fire department: The council appointed James O. (Jim) Anderson as interim fire chief until a new chief is hired; Anderson had been listed earlier in the attendance roster as deputy fire chief.
Other notes: During council comments Councilmember Cynthia Miller noted robust public attendance and promoted the Chamber banquet on Feb. 26. Councilmember Nobles asked Police Chief Wes Kicklighter to brief the council about two newly hired officers; Councilmember Waters asked about contractor Durrence Enterprises' limb-pickup procedures. Department heads provided printed reports that will be attached to the minutes. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned; minutes will be presented to the council on March 3, 2026 for affirmation.
