Council rejects special exception to place manufactured home on Rosemont Road

Glennville — The City Council on Jan. 6 rejected a special exception request to allow a manufactured home on Parcel No. 109 015B on Rosemont Road, overturning the Planning Commission's recommendation.
City Attorney Hugh McCullough presided over the public hearing on the special exception. Jenna Harvey spoke during public comment, recounting a family history that referenced a prior mayor and past annexation discussions. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the exception, but when the council took a roll-call vote on Resolution #26-12 the measure failed: Councilmember Cynthia Miller voted aye; Councilmembers Marcus H. Nobles III, Greg Janeczek and Tammy Waters voted nay. The resolution did not pass.
The request would have allowed placement of a residential manufactured home on land zoned AG (agricultural). The council did not record conditions attached to the request on the meeting record, and the council did not take further action at the meeting to reschedule or modify the request.
Because the council voted against the exception, the property remains subject to the AG zoning restrictions and may continue to be ineligible for a manufactured home without further council action or a successful appeal.
