Director updates board on Naples pier, beach access, playground and dock projects

Community Services Director Chad Merritt gave the board a broad projects update at the May 19 meeting, highlighting progress on multiple park and waterfront efforts across Naples.
Merritt reported progress at the Naples Pier, saying, "We've got about, I think, 17 piles that have been put in, and cut off," and noted beach-access work on the department schedule is largely complete though one access at 21st Avenue South will need upgrades after storm damage. He said the department will schedule upgrades and that vegetation recovery will take time after storm impacts.
Merritt said Banyan Boulevard and Riley Park work is slated for summer construction pending city council approval. He outlined staggered playground projects at Anthony Park and River Park (Anthony Park to be done first to avoid conflicting with summer camp) and mentioned Loudermilk/Lottermilk Park as another planned playground site.
On the city dock, Merritt said the fuel-tank replacement project is in design phase and will replace both underground fuel tanks to increase capacity; the design will move to a construction bid stage. He also described strong community interest at the tennis center and said Parks and Recreation Month programming will be highlighted with a proclamation in the June meeting.
