The Ottawa Arts Committee on Feb. 2 reviewed participant feedback from the 2025 Plaine Aire Festival and moved to make the 2026 Paint The Town competition a juried event with a $25 application fee.
Amanda Zehr told the committee the grand-prize winner provided positive feedback but participants suggested restructuring awards, changing the jury process and announcing the competition earlier in the season. Zehr said she reached out to Bob Nelson to get the 2026 event on the calendar and is awaiting available dates from "Nell’s" so the committee can finalize scheduling by March.
The committee agreed that members will perform the jurying for the competition and that organizers will incorporate the participant suggestions when drafting the application materials and schedule. The committee did not record a formal vote on the item during the meeting and left some details — including exact deadlines and the full jury rubric — to be finalized by email.
Next steps: Zehr will confirm dates with the venue contact and circulate the proposed application timeline and jury criteria to committee members for an email vote before the March target date.
