Marco Island council appoints Kevin Doan to fill vacant seat

The Marco Island City Council on May 18 appointed Kevin Doan to fill a vacancy on the seven-member dais. Councilor Henry moved to appoint Doan; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. The council then administered the oath of office, and Doan was welcomed to the council.
Chair Palumbo read the names of the applicants in alphabetical order before members made nominations; several councilors nominated other applicants during the process before voting settled on Doan. After the roll call, Palumbo said, “Kevin, welcome to the Marco Island City Council,” and staff administered the oath, which Doan repeated.
Palumbo said the council had reached out to applicants and conducted interviews before making a quick appointment to meet timing requirements in the city charter. Councilors noted the seat will be up for election in November, and members encouraged the appointees to run in that election. The council recessed briefly so staff could update seating and photography procedures for the new member before resuming the agenda.
