Blakely Council adopts sidewalk and crosswalk ordinance, approves grant application and several resolutions; paves-cut ordinance tabled

The Blakely Borough Council on July 15 approved a new Sidewalk & Crosswalk Ordinance and adopted two resolutions authorizing program participation and a grant application, while tabling a proposed Pave Cut Ordinance.
Solicitor Atty. Abrahamsen read Resolution 18 of 2024 authorizing the borough’s participation in the PSAB Junior Council Person Program; the motion to adopt was made by Louis R. Parri, seconded by Edward J. Alco Jr., and carried with all ayes. The council also adopted Resolution 19 of 2024 authorizing Christopher R. Paone and Louis R. Parri to apply for a Multimodal Transportation Fund grant on behalf of Blakely Borough; that motion was made by Mr. Alco, seconded by Kevin Swift, and approved unanimously.
Council members voted to adopt Ordinance 3 of 2024, the Sidewalk & Crosswalk Ordinance; the motion passed with unanimous approval. The Solicitor asked for a motion to table the proposed Pave Cut Ordinance; Jeffrey Cruciani moved to table, Kevin Swift seconded and the motion to table was approved.
Council business also included routine approvals: a motion to accept the treasurer’s report and the Mine Cave Commission report (which noted all mine openings and voids were secure as of July 15) passed, and the finance committee’s report was accepted. The council approved bills presented for payment: General Payable in the amount of $258,341.55 and Electric Payable $22,879.98.
What happens next: staff are authorized to pursue the Multimodal Transportation Fund grant application under Resolution 19; the Pave Cut Ordinance will remain tabled until a future meeting when council brings it back for discussion or action.
