Mount Vernon council approves $2.79 million in vouchers, multiple rezones and new fire truck

Council Member Joe Gliosci moved to approve the consolidated vouchers; Council Member Donte Moore seconded the motion, and the measure passed with Yeas: Gliosci, Moore and Mayor John Lewis. Council Members Ray Botch and Mike Young were recorded absent.
The council adopted four zoning ordinances recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission. Ordinance #2025-11 rezoned 1209 S. 9th Street from R-2 to RM-2 (petition of Janice Jefferson); Ordinance #2025-12 rezoned 901 North Street from R-2 to B-1 (petition of Julie Boles); Ordinance #2025-13 rezoned 801 Fairfield Road from R-1 to B-2 for McMahan’s Nursery; and Ordinance #2025-14 granted a conditional use for an off‑premise sign at 801 Fairfield Road. All rezones were motioned and approved by the three members present.
The council also approved Ordinance #2025-15 authorizing the purchase of a new fire truck. Acting City Manager Nathan McKenna said delivery is expected at the end of May or in the first week of June and that the city will finalize a loan with Banterra to finance the purchase.
Other administrative actions included approval of a subdivision preliminary and final plat for property at 12430 E. Bethel Road (petition of Patrick Gee) and consent actions regarding Miller Lake leases.
The council concluded the item-by-item business and adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
