Authority approves pump repair, pays bills and accepts treasurer's report

Solicitor Stephen Kalis read the capital and operating invoices presented for payment, which included capital items such as Ebert Engineering ($5,500.88) and Sewer Specialty Services ($230,006.70), Borough of Pottstown charges ($42,389.00) and legal fees to Fox Rothschild ($1,463.00). Operating items included recurring charges such as DelVal interest ($18,218.38), PECO/Met-Ed ($20,310.00), and PIRMA property and liability insurance ($3,772.05). The board voted 4-0 to pay the bills as presented.
Treasurer Joe McGeehan read the Treasurer's report dated July 25, 2024, showing a Sewer Revenue Account balance of $4,440,755.36 and a Capital Improvement Reserve of $1,708,786.14; the board approved the report by unanimous vote.
Operational note: Tim Watson reported a generator failure on July 12 after a bird caused a phase loss; the generator overheated after running and requires an engine rebuild (estimate ~$35,000, ~two months) or full replacement (quote ~$165,000, ~11 months). Wagner said an insurance claim is pending (deductible $1,000) and a diesel pump at Porter Road prevented overflow.
Why it matters: the board's approvals cover routine and capital expenditures and note an equipment failure that could affect pump station redundancy pending insurance and repair decisions.
Next steps: the Authority will process payments and await the insurance claim outcome for the Porter Road generator; the next meeting is scheduled for Sept. 9, 2024.
