Lower Pottsgrove awards North Adams Street bridge contract to G & B Construction

The Lower Pottsgrove Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously March 3 to award the North Adams Street bridge replacement contract to G & B Construction for $680,982.31. The township received a County Transportation grant of $310,145, leaving the township responsible for roughly $370,000 of the total base bid.

Engineer Nick Perilli told the board that ten bids were opened Feb. 26 and that the lowest bidder — G & B Construction — submitted the $680,982.31 base bid. Perilli said beams for the project were arriving the week of the meeting and crews planned to begin setting them immediately, with pouring of the new bridge deck scheduled for the following week. "The process is long but necessary," Perilli said, noting that the contractor must hire a design engineer to prepare the final structural plans and submit them to PennDOT for a final structural review.

Manager Edward C. Wagner said he and Perilli checked references and spoke with other municipalities that reported projects by G & B were completed under budget and without significant change orders. Commissioner Michael McGroarty moved to award the contract and Commissioner Robert Mohollen seconded; the motion carried 5-0.

The board’s action clears the way for the contractor to begin the construction phase pending completion of the contractor’s engineer-led design and PennDOT’s final review. Perilli said he is hopeful the project will wrap up in late March or early April, contingent on the review and construction schedule.

The award was taken during the board’s regular meeting at the Lower Pottsgrove Township Building. The project is part of the township’s capital infrastructure work for 2025 and is subject to the grant terms and PennDOT approvals.
