Police Chief Richard Bell presented the department’s January 2025 statistics and operational updates at the Feb. 3 meeting.
Bell reported 1,447 calls for service in January, 91 traffic citations, three DUI arrests, 39 accident investigations, 70 reported criminal violations and 17 adult arrests. He added the department handled 15 mental-health/involuntary commitment matters. Bell said an underage compliance operation produced three non-traffic citations to local businesses that sold tobacco products to juveniles.
Bell also described a family dispute off Pebble Beach Road about a week and a half earlier in which a shot was fired; police arrested a suspect and recovered approximately five handguns and one long gun from the residence. He told the Board the department concentrated efforts recently on speeding enforcement along Route 422 at the Board's request. Three new patrol vehicles were ordered and the department is awaiting timing and quotes for lighting equipment from a vendor.
Bell reviewed Civil Service actions in 2024: testing generated an eligibility list that produced a successful hire, and a promotional process resulted in two sergeants being promoted in January 2025 after testing and contractual steps in 2024. Sergeant Black reported the promotional training was very useful, Bell said.
Bell said he will follow up on training with Sergeant DiPiano and pass thanks to patrol staff for their work over the past year.
