Keim Street sewer-liner work nearing completion after 1,300 feet installed; resident well complaint prompts testing

The Authority heard June 10 that crews have installed roughly 1,300 feet of sewer liner on Keim Street and that PennDOT permitted extended hours to shorten the project schedule.
Sewer Operator Tim Watson said the work has proceeded without issue and was expected to finish Thursday. Staff obtained an emergency permit to excavate a manhole that had been buried by paving at the intersection of Keim Street and N. Valley Road; castings and a section of new blacktop were installed.
A nearby homeowner reported a concern that liner resin might be contaminating her well water. Staff provided Material Safety Data Sheets to the homeowner, and Engineer Fred Ebert reported he met with the homeowner and did not detect any odor. Ebert also noted the homeowner had installed a new carbon filtration system that day in addition to an existing reverse osmosis system. The Montgomery County Health Department was scheduled to test the well the next day; Ebert said results would take approximately 10–14 days.
Ebert said a likely cause of the odor complaint is the absence of a trap on the homeowner’s lateral, which may have allowed sewer smell into the home when hot air was used during the lining operation. The homeowner’s son, who works for Collegeville Trappe Municipal Authority, also inspected the situation and told staff he found no issue.
Tim Watson said he will replace several manhole castings in the coming month in advance of paving work.
