Jessica Chari, one of the district art-fair coordinators and vice principal at Thomas R. Palantino Middle School, presented a slideshow and video of the JESD art fair held April 28 in the TRP gym.
Chari described the fair as an inclusive showcase of two- and three-dimensional visual art, performing arts (district band, mariachi and dance ensembles) and student spoken-word poetry, including fifth-grade students reading poems originally written in Spanish and translated line by line for the audience. She credited collaborating principals, teachers and district maintenance staff for display boards and logistics.
Board members praised the event as a strong example of student creativity and recommended expanding displays beyond district sites (for example, San Mateo County venues). Chari said she would follow up with county offices to explore wider exhibition opportunities.
The presentation was informational; trustees asked questions about expanding digital and performing arts options in future fairs.
