Henderson council approves pistol upgrades with optics for police department

Police Chief Gary Davidson told aldermen the department seeks to upgrade service pistols to models with optic sites, saying the optics "increase accuracy scores dramatically." He said the department can trade current pistols and holsters and use trade values from seized firearms, but would be short $7,826.69 and requested those funds from the capital outlay account.
Chief Davidson also said the department expects a $12,000 cost‑sharing grant that will reimburse costs for Officer Burns’ academy training and replace the capital outlay funds used for the pistol purchase. Alderman Keith Smith moved to approve the purchase and use of trade‑in values; Ald. Buel Maness seconded and the motion carried.
Chief Davidson reported the department also deposited $12,854 from seized‑vehicle sales and placed $2,208 into the drug fund, which helped offset a prior $12,000 borrowing used to buy an unmarked vehicle.
