Commission weighs $5.8M-plus road repairs for County Road 93 and truck-routing challenges from quarry traffic

Staff said some repair elements were reimbursable under an earlier federally declared project, and those items will be repaired with FEMA-associated funding; however, final paving and guardrail work related to a 2.1-mile resurfacing option would require additional county funds. Staff noted the overall project has had significant prior expenditures and estimated a remaining shortfall in the project budget that could be substantial; one commissioner described a $5.8 million figure related to the broader project scope.
Separately, staff presented two alternate truck routes serving a nearby quarry and showed average daily traffic and truck percentages for each route. Commissioners and staff discussed safety concerns at turns on County Roads 74, 75 and 94 where heavy trucks have accelerated pavement deterioration, and they asked staff to evaluate signage, posting truck routes, safety-improvement options and potential county funding sources to patch or repave affected sections.
The commission asked staff to return with a more detailed funding analysis and recommendations for next steps.
