The Jackson County Commission appointed Margaret Turner as county administrator and adopted a pair of resolutions to implement procedures under the Alabama Open Records Act during its May 26 meeting in Scottsboro. The measures name Turner as the county's public records officer and set procedures for accepting, processing and releasing public records requests.
The chair introduced Turner at the start of the meeting and described her prior contracting and budget-analysis work with a federal contractor and private-sector program-management roles. The commission voted to approve signatures for warrants and checks and then adopted the open-records resolution designating Turner to carry out the directives of the amended Alabama Open Records Act.
County staff said the resolutions implement an attachment that lays out the county's procedure for receiving and fulfilling requests, and that the policy takes effect per the dates stated in the resolution. Commissioners asked for appropriate protections to shield private or confidential material while preserving public access as required under state law.
No public comment on the resolutions was recorded. The commission voted to adopt the minutes and the resolutions; the chair announced the motions carried.
