Granville wins NBRC water-main grant and adopts pro-housing resolution to boost grant eligibility

Mayor Paul Labas told the board that the National Border Regional Commission approved the village’s grant application to install a new 8" water main from the Church Street Bridge to Main Street.
Labas said the replacement will increase flow rates to residences and businesses and improve fire protection. He credited the Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board, village engineers and staff for helping prepare a competitive application.
Separately, the board unanimously adopted a resolution provided by the Lake Champlain Lake George Regional Planning Board designating Granville as a Pro-Housing Community. According to the draft resolution reviewed by Mayor Labas, the designation commits the village to supporting streamlined permitting, fair housing practices and integrating regional housing needs into planning — steps required to pursue several larger grant programs.
Trustee Dean Hyatt sponsored the resolution; Deputy Mayor Gordon Smith Jr. seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
