Montville advances Metro Tract site work and pickleball court planning with design hires and capital set-asides

Montville Township staff reported progress on Metro Tract site improvements and planning for new pickleball courts at the commission’s Jan. 8 meeting.
The commission noted that Christopher Statille, P.A. has been secured to provide design and construction support for recreational improvements including six pickleball courts at the Metro Tract property. Recreation staff reported $550,000 in available capital funding for the project plus a $71,000 local recreation improvement grant earmarked for the courts. Separately, the township’s engineering budget includes $200,000 in capital for Metro Tract site work to construct an access road into the site, a walking trail and parking.
The township has hired Matt MacDonald to perform permitting and design work for Metro Tract site improvements; bid specifications were described as including the entrance road, walking trail and parking lot construction. Staff also reported other park improvements in process: two new entrance gates for Community Park playgrounds (pending materials and vendor availability) and a planned playground power wash in early spring due to drought conditions. Commissioners noted the progress and that the Township Committee will review budget requests tied to these projects.
