Oak Park MAC elects Trushinski chair, Santucci vice chair and votes to push for clearer maintenance and transportation agreements

Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council members elected Brian Trushinski as chair and Michelle Santucci as vice chair during their June 27 meeting at Oak Park High School, motions moved and seconded on the floor and approved by all members present.
The leadership change followed outgoing Chair J. L. Diaz announcing he would step down. Diaz moved the election of Trushinski; Jane Nye seconded the chair vote. Diaz also moved the vice-chair nomination of Michelle Santucci, seconded by Trushinski. The council recorded the actions as approved by those present.
Members used the meeting to spotlight several neighborhood concerns and to press for greater transparency from county staff. Trushinski asked the MAC to review transportation agreements after members raised traffic-safety concerns on Kanan Road and asked that maintenance agreements for Medea Creek be made public. "Agreements should be public and community members should be informed," Vice Chair Santucci said during board comments.
Board members also reported ongoing issues with unlawful dumping (notably furniture) at Conifer and Cabra streets, stormwater drainage at Golden Eagle Trail, and resident worries about herbicide and pesticide use near open space. The council asked staff to provide clearer communication about maintenance plans and to prioritize outreach to residents ahead of any field work.
The MAC scheduled community engagement sessions, noting the next sessions on Aug. 8 and Nov. 14 at the Oak Park Community Center; county staff and Rec and Park representatives will attend.
The council adjourned at 8:41 p.m.; its next regular meeting is set for Sept. 26, 2024, at Oak Park High School.
