The Mamaroneck Board of Education approved a resolution delegating to the superintendent the authority to accept cooperative bids for electricity and natural gas provided specified annual price ceilings are met.
During the meeting, the chair read the resolution aloud: “Now therefore be resolved that this board hereby delegates to the superintendent of schools the authority to accept bids for electricity and natural gas submitted pursuant to the cooperative bid on the following conditions.” The resolution sets two price conditions for natural gas: an annual ceiling price on a basis of $6 per MMBtu or less, and an annual ceiling price on the NYMEX Henry Hub of $7 per MMBtu or less. The resolution also requires the superintendent to report in writing to the school board within 24 hours any action taken under this delegated authority.
A motion and second were taken and the board recorded the vote in the meeting; the motion passed (the chair called for “All in favor”). The delegation may be revoked at any time by action of the board, per the language read into the record.
What this means: the board has given the superintendent limited, time‑sensitive authority to accept energy bids that meet the board’s caps, enabling staff to secure cooperative contracts quickly while preserving board oversight through the 24‑hour reporting requirement.
Next steps: the superintendent is expected to notify the board in writing within 24 hours of any bid acceptance taken under this delegation.
