A select board member asked whether additional duties would be required and who would carry them out; Whiteside said the primary next steps are the proclamation and a presentation by the state chapter, and she referenced written backup materials provided to the board. “We then recommend it through the state, and it gets done,” Whiteside said. Board members expressed support, and the motion to declare Wareham a Purple Heart community passed by roll call.
The action requires town staff and the Veterans Council to coordinate the formal proclamation and any signage or observances the board chooses to pursue.
