Ringgold County engineers report storm damage, complete emergency culvert repairs

County Engineer Jared Johnson told the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors on May 26 that heavy rainfall over the prior weekend produced widespread flooding and roadway overtopping, with an especially intense band from Mount Ayr toward Redding. Crews were dispatched the night of May 18 to close inundated roads and begin emergency repairs.
Johnson said crews graded roadways, hauled rock and repaired emergency culverts. He reported three emergency work orders as complete: W.O. 1464 (culvert repair along P38 between J55 and 310th Street), W.O. 1465 (culvert repair along 130th Street between J20 and 300th Avenue) and W.O. 1466 (culvert repair along P64 between J55 and 280th Street).
"By the end of the week, most locations where floodwater had topped the roadway were repaired," Engineer Jared Johnson said. He added that roadside mowing and brush-spraying operations continued in multiple parts of the county to restore sightlines and clear bridge ends.
Johnson also updated the board on the Middlefork 10 site, where river rise from the storm washed out a temporary crossing and left debris across the work area. Crews reset road closures, retrieved equipment for elevated operations and plan to clean debris, rebuild the temporary crossing and place falsework piling for the east span during the coming week.
The board took no formal vote on road work beyond acknowledging the update; supervisors approved the meeting agenda and other business earlier in the session.
