EDC highlights heirs property seminar, tourism mini-grants and 2025 real estate report

Warren County Economic Development Commission staff used the April 20 meeting to announce several community programs and provide an annual report update.
Community Development Manager Rose Ponton said the county will host a free Heirs Property Seminar on May 6 at the Warren County Armory that will cover landownership rights, usage and preservation; the seminar will include breakfast and lunch and registration is free. Tourism Manager Cherie Nielsen presented the county’s tourism mini-grant program, outlining the program’s purpose, annual funding allocations and eligibility requirements as part of the tourism update.
Community and Economic Development Director McKinley Perkinson presented the North Carolina Economic Development 2025 Real Estate Report, summarizing projects created in 2025, including on-site expansions, new location projects and manufacturing sites selected during the year, and noted national selection trends. Perkinson also reported updates on awarded grants and described various active projects and focus areas for staff.
Perkinson announced a temporary office relocation for the Community and Economic Development department to the John Graham Building because of building issues and said she would distribute updated contact information by email. Cherie Nielsen invited members to a Business After Hours event on April 23 at the Jacob Holt House.
