Township manager and finance staff presented a detailed budget overview, saying the township would apply a portion of prior‑year surplus and interest income from the sewer‑sale principal to support one‑time capital transfers and that the township is not recommending a change to the current 3.27 millage rate for 2026. Staff identified paving, stormwater, fleet replacement and public‑safety costs as top capital priorities and noted regional discussions about fire and police funding models and the potential merger of local fire companies.
Board members and residents asked for clarifications about the budget composition, including the size of the transfer to the capital fund (one‑time infusion from surplus), payroll and benefit costs across management, administration and public safety, and how projected development (not yet approved) was being or would be accounted for in future budgets. Staff said revenues from permit activity and transfer taxes are treated conservatively and that projected revenues tied to new developments will only be counted after land‑development approvals move to active permit stages.
After the presentation and Q&A, the board voted to advertise the FY2026 proposed budget for the 30‑day public review period. The advertisement allows for public comment and a formal adoption vote at a future meeting after the required notice period.
