Lower Pottsgrove reports reduced sewer peak flows; DEP review could end corrective action status

Lower Pottsgrove Township Manager Edward C. Wagner told commissioners the Lower Pottsgrove Township Authority has spent roughly $8–10 million over the past ten years to reduce infiltration and inflow (I&I) into the sewer system.
Wagner said the Department of Environmental Protection asked Mr. Fred Ebert to review the Authority’s top four storm events from the prior year; that review shows the Authority’s flows are significantly below its previous peak flows. Wagner said while questions remain, those findings put the Authority on track to potentially exit the DEP corrective action plan, which would restore authority control over equivalent dwelling units (EDUs).
Commissioners did not vote on the matter at the Jan. 15 meeting; Wagner said he would continue to follow up with DEP and the Authority to confirm next steps.
