The Keyport Board of Education approved multiple agenda items during its meeting, including a model resolution urging state officials to address a school health‑benefits crisis, personnel hires and curriculum adoptions, and administrative facility actions.
Board secretary Mr. Rapola summarized a model resolution (motion 109) drafted by the New Jersey School Boards and promoted by Tim Than; the motion asks boards across the state to send certified resolutions to state officials about the rising cost and availability of health benefits. Board members discussed the language and intent and agreed the resolution would be forwarded to the governor and other state officials.
The board then moved and seconded a set of approvals covering agenda items 8.1–10.15 (which included the resolution, usage approvals, donations and contracts) and later approved items 11.1–12.25 (curriculum adoptions, AP teacher trip approvals, multiple personnel actions and professional service agreements). The motions carried on roll call; board minutes reflect a majority of "yes" votes with at least one abstention recorded on the April 29 minutes.
Facilities and operations: administrators described a failed electrical breaker at Central School that went out during a winter storm and required a leased replacement while the original unit was refurbished; the district expects closing bills and intends to submit claims to its insurer. The reconnection of the main power supply at Central School was listed on the agenda (item 10.13) and will be finalized as part of the facilities work.
Personnel: Dr. Seavoya presented resignations (Mr. Kellenio and Miss Lauder were noted) and a slate of staff approvals including newly recommended teachers and substitutes. The board approved adoption of 6–12 curriculum materials and other personnel and instructional items as presented.
What happens next: several policies and regulations related to Alert 2037 will return for second reading and formal approval. Administrators and committees will continue follow up on the facilities work and on communications about the resolution to state officials.
