Norway city staff opened a public hearing on the proposed 2024–2025 budget, describing the document as the culmination of seven budget workshops and covering general, enterprise and other fund line items. "This is the open public hearing for the 2024–2025 budget," the presenter said, noting the draft contains millage and fee schedules and detailed line items for each fund.
The presenter told the council the draft reflects council direction from prior workshops and that staff are not asking for final action tonight; the administration intends to bring the budget back for adoption at the June 3 council meeting. "Tonight is for the community to ask questions about the 2024–2025 budget; I'm not asking Council to approve this budget tonight," the presenter said.
Council members and staff reiterated that the packet includes resolutions on the first pages and detailed line-item budgets in back, and that changes after adoption would require postponing adoption to another meeting because amendments affect interdependent budget entries. One councilor thanked the budget team and acknowledged the time invested by staff in preparing the draft.
No members of the public offered comments during the hearing. The council moved to close the public hearing and return to regular session; formal adoption of the budget remains scheduled for the June 3 meeting.
