Planning commission approves mobile vet at 118 Clark Gates and a lot‑line change on Babcock Road

The East Haddam Planning & Zoning Commission approved two land‑use items on May 12 and continued another after procedural issues.

Application 26‑06 (118 Clark Gates, Map 75 Lot 011) sought permission for a home‑based mobile veterinary service operated by Laura Abbott. Commissioners asked about vehicle size, signage and whether the proposed mobile veterinary van would meet dimensional limits. After confirming that vehicle details will be finalized with the applicant, a motion to approve the application passed; the vote was recorded as all in favor.

Separately, the commission approved Application 26‑0730 (Babcock Road, Map 13 Lot 015), a lot‑line amendment that would give an existing house limited access to a nearby pond. Staff explained that the amendment used maps on file and that no field survey had been performed; commissioners approved the technical lot‑line change and noted a deed would be prepared by the applicant’s attorney.

Staff reported that Application 26‑0484 (Falls Road) for an online kitchen retail shop lacked required mailings and would be continued until proper notification is completed. Commissioners also voted to continue the William Palmer Road firehouse application to May 20 at the applicant’s request.

Next steps: staff will notify applicants of the approvals, confirm vehicle‑size modifications for the veterinary service, and post the continued public‑hearing date for the firehouse application.
