Board hears transportation report: EV bus returns to service; 99.3% DOT inspection pass rate

The board received a transportation and facilities update on May 26 that highlighted vehicle safety ratings, electric-vehicle operations and a proposed new transportation center.
Dr. Perry reported the district's transportation department achieved a 99.3% passing rate on New York State Department of Transportation inspections, exceeding the 90% minimum. "We've exceeded that multiple times and Mr. Sim and his staff are really doing an outstanding job keeping our buses safe and on the road," Dr. Perry said.
On electric vehicles, Dr. Perry said the district received a 24-passenger electric vehicle bus earlier in the year and, after initial charging issues, it was returned to service in March. He cautioned that statewide policy changes may delay mandated EV purchases: board members discussed reports that a state budget provision could push the EV purchase requirement from 2027 to 2032, extending the transition timeline and prompting the district to reassess infrastructure timing for chargers.
The transportation center project was described as partially approved by state education officials with a second portion pending. The board discussed whether the district can stage infrastructure investments given possible changes in the state mandate.
No separate vote was required; the update was provided as a committee report.
