Resident questions developer parking valuation and tax payoff during Saddle Brook reorganization meeting
Summary
During public comment at the Saddle Brook reorganization meeting, a longtime resident questioned claims about a development’s parking-space valuation and whether projected $300,000/year in tax revenue justifies the deal; the council did not provide a detailed fiscal response at the session.

A Saddle Brook resident used the public-comment period at the township’s reorganization meeting to challenge earlier statements about the value assigned to parking spaces in a development matter and to question the projected tax benefit to the town.
“If you break that down, that’s $25,000 of parking space,” said the resident, who identified himself as Mr. Samson, referring to an earlier figure that valued 40 parking spaces at $1 million. He cited a separate claim that the developer was responsible for 214 parking spots at $25,000 each, which he calculated as $5,350,000 in land value, and said the town’s expected $300,000 in annual tax revenue was insufficient to offset municipal needs for equipment and services.
Mr. Samson also disputed characterizations that the property in question was vacant, saying the old police station was being used to store department records and equipment and had ongoing utility costs. He concluded by saying he would return to address the council again.
Council members thanked Mr. Samson for his comments but did not offer a substantive fiscal rebuttal or staff analysis during the meeting. The remarks were recorded during the public comment portion and will require follow-up with municipal staff or review of development-agreement documents for verification and fiscal detail.
