The board used its May 26 meeting to celebrate student achievement. Carla Davis, the district’s Science Olympiad coordinator, announced five elementary teams placed overall (Franklin first; Burns and Hicks second; Lincoln third; Edison fourth; Irving fifth) and noted event structure and team participation. Several students described individual event results and accepted medals.
Superintendent Selenus and school principals presented Morton and Hammond Central salutatorians and valedictorians. Named students include Morton valedictorian Rihanna Bailey and salutatorian Hannah Johnston and Hammond Central valedictorian Annabelle Diaz and salutatorian Joy Kakkesh; principals noted their postsecondary plans and invited them to speak at upcoming ceremonies.
The superintendent also provided operational details for the end of the school year: a retirement reception on May 28, a staggered dismissal schedule for May 29 (detailed times for walkers, car riders and bus riders at each school level), and graduation ceremonies over the coming weekend (Morton at Wolf Lake Pavilion; Hammond Central at Hammond Central), with summer programs and a July 29 back-to-school registration event announced.
