Roxboro council approves consent items, renews lobbyist contract; tables utility-policy revision

At its meeting, Roxboro's City Council approved routine consent items and unanimously approved a $48,000 annual renewal of the Strategic Initiatives Project contract (budgeted in the council budget) to continue advocacy and grant work. The council also voted to table a proposed resolution revising policy on utility extensions and connections outside the city limits until the August 13 meeting to allow more review.
Staff reported on an overnight water-main break on Morehead and Jones that required a 10-foot replacement of a 12-inch main, resulted in a temporary boil-water notice, and triggered hydrant flushing and lab testing to ensure safety. Public Works and contractor crews handled the repair and staff said testing was underway.
Other business included a quarterly Town Roxboro report (events, facade grants and promotions) and administrative updates on wastewater treatment plant progress, Western sewer right-of-way work, and pending bids for Western sewer projects.
Procedural votes: the meeting agenda and the consent agenda were adopted by voice votes earlier in the meeting. The utility-annexation policy draft will return to council on Aug. 13 for further consideration.
