Council ordered property owner Maran Chambers to appear before the August 13 meeting with photographic evidence and a status update on ongoing work at 122 Trotter Street, where repeated delays and a multi-year code case have frustrated council members.
Staff told council Mr. Chambers notified them by message that he was ill and would not attend; council members described long-standing intermittent progress and expressed a desire to set clear milestones. "We require Mr. Chambers to appear at our August 13th meeting with an update... the expectation is that it is dried in or moving toward completion of the drying process," the motion as restated by the mayor said after it passed.
The motion, moved by Mr. Chandler and seconded by Mr. Baker, specified that failure to appear or demonstrate progress would permit the city to resume prior demolition authorities under its code enforcement procedures. Staff also said it will check permitting status, have code enforcement conduct on-site photo inspections, and research fines or other enforcement tools should council wish to pursue them.
Next steps: Mr. Chambers must appear on Aug. 13 with photos and a written scope of work or face staff-initiated next steps; staff will report permit status and an updated inspection.
