Garrett Park, Director, briefed the commission on maintenance and operations: county crews and contractors have completed parking-lot resurfacing at Granite Bay and work at Tree Lake Park and Douglas Ranch, the Griffith Quarry project is complete and paving contracts have been awarded to two vendors suited to trails and parking lots respectively. He said the county is coordinating resurfacing at Loomis and Foresthill parks and is using pooled timing to avoid closing entire sites during sports seasons.
Park operations staff completed a Commons Beach safety audit and are planning corrective actions; irrigation repairs were made at Glen Willow and a variable-speed pump controller was replaced at Dry Creek Park. Park staff also reported that Martis and Cisco sites are ready for Memorial Weekend and that crews will begin Tahoe-building maintenance as the season permits.
On recreational facilities, Park staff said Dutch Flat pool and its deck refurbishment are ready and the pool is scheduled to open this weekend; a lifeguard instructor has been hired to improve staffing at the remote facility.
Why it matters: The county is addressing deferred maintenance and using a combination of in-house staff and contractors to deliver capital and maintenance work so parks remain open and safe for visitors.
Next steps: Staff will sequence paving and drainage projects to minimize user disruption and will present schedules to supervisors and commissioners as engineering and design work advances.
