Town officials used the March 2 meeting to publicly recognize the Department of Public Works and police for extended response during a recent severe storm described by staff as a "50‑year storm." The chief and town manager both thanked crews that worked long shifts and described actions to keep emergency routes open.
The town manager reported crews worked "over 46 straight hours" in difficult conditions, pre‑treating roads and clearing intersections, and said the police department conducted welfare checks and assisted stranded motorists. Councilors and the public offered praise for teamwork and expressed appreciation for the dedication shown by staff across departments.
During public comment, resident Joe Maro proposed the town host a pizza party or similar event in July to recognize DPW crews and first responders and offered to help organize. Councilors welcomed the suggestion and thanked Mr. Maro for the offer.
Councilors said they would consider coordinating a recognition event that would include families, and to follow up on logistics and timing once weather improves.
