Veterans and organizers at a recent Memorial Day event described Lopez's military service and honors, and Tony Garcia, founder of Warriors United in Arms, urged the commission to formally recognize Lopez and preserve veterans' history. Commissioners thanked veterans for their service and discussed creating a formal naming policy for parks and city facilities so future naming requests can be vetted consistently.
After public remarks, the commission voted to adopt the resolution renaming the park. Commissioners and veterans posed for photos and the commission expressed support for continued work to enhance and maintain the park in coming years.
